Frequently Asked Questions
FIND YOUR PERFECT FIT
Our hats are designed with a flexible elastic inner sweatband to provide a comfortable, secure fit across different head shapes and sizes.
We currently offer two sizes:
- MEDIUM: 22.04–22.83 in (56–58 cm)
- LARGE: 23.22–23.62 in (59–60 cm)
Don't see a Small? Our Medium is designed to accommodate smaller head measurements within its size range.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEAD
For the most accurate fit, use a soft, flexible measuring tape.
- Place the measuring tape around your head, approximately 1–2 cm above your eyebrows and just above your ears.
- Bring it around the widest part of the back of your head.
- Keep the tape snug but not tight. If you prefer a more relaxed fit, leave a little extra room.
- Take your measurement and compare it with the size chart above.
Tip:Â The flexible elastic inner sweatband provides some give for a comfortable fit, but your head measurement should still fall within the recommended size range.
Our hats incorporate a variety of materials, including vegan suede, organic cotton, leather, natural feathers, and crystals. Each material is selected for its character, quality, and how it contributes to the overall design.
We believe in being transparent about the materials we use and thoughtful about where they come from. Some materials have environmental impacts, and we don't believe in presenting any material as completely impact-free. Instead, we focus on making intentional choices, working with people we trust, minimizing unnecessary waste, and creating pieces designed to be treasured for years.
Vegan Suede
Our base hats are made using vegan suede. While this material allows us to create the look and feel we love without using animal-derived suede, we recognize that synthetic materials have an environmental impact.
Rather than describing it as an inherently sustainable material, we believe in being honest about that impact while focusing on creating durable pieces that are made to be worn and enjoyed for years.
Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is used in select hat bands and designs.
We choose organic cotton where possible as a more thoughtful material choice, as it is grown using agricultural practices that avoid many of the synthetic pesticides and fertilizers used in conventional cotton production.
Leather
Leather is used in some of our hat bands and details for its durability, character, and ability to develop a beautiful patina over time.
We recognize that leather has an environmental impact. Where we use it, our focus is on choosing quality materials that are made to last rather than creating disposable accessories.
Feathers
Natural feathers are an important part of many Inara designs.
Some of our feathers are collected ourselves from nature, while others come from small farms we have worked with in Manitoba. Feathers such as rooster feathers are naturally molted by the animals and collected rather than being taken from them specifically for decorative use.
Our turkey feathers are sourced as a byproduct of the food industry. The animals are used as a whole, allowing the feathers to be given a second purpose rather than simply becoming waste.
We choose feathers with reverence and believe in honoring the natural materials that become part of our designs.
Crystals
Crystals are incorporated into select Inara designs and are individually chosen for their natural beauty, character, and symbolism.
Because crystal extraction can have environmental and social impacts, we don't describe crystals as inherently sustainable or impact-free. Instead, we focus on choosing pieces thoughtfully and using them in designs intended to be treasured for years.
Where are your hats made?
Our base hats are sourced from a trusted supplier in Mexico. We then transform and design each piece here in Canada through our own creative process.
Choosing who we work with matters to us. We value relationships built around fair treatment, respectful working conditions, and fair wages, and we stand firmly against child labor and exploitation.
How does Inara give back?
Through our partnership with One Tree Planted, a tree is planted for every hat sold.
This allows every purchase to contribute to reforestation and the restoration of ecosystems while supporting biodiversity and healthier environments.
Is Inara Hat Co. a sustainable brand?
We don't believe in claiming perfection.
Some of the materials we use have environmental impacts, and there is always more we can learn and improve. Rather than calling every material or process “sustainable,” we believe in being honest about our choices and intentional about where we can do better.
For us, responsible business means caring about people, treating materials with respect, creating pieces that are made to last, minimizing unnecessary waste, and finding meaningful ways to give back.
You can learn more about our approach on our Our Values & Materials page.
To keep your hat looking its best, we recommend gently brushing off dirt with a soft brush. For stains, use a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking or submerging the hat in water, and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
