At Inara Hat Co., we believe that what we choose to wear should carry meaning beyond its appearance.

Thoughtful Sourcing

Our hats begin with carefully selected base hats sourced from a trusted supplier in Mexico. While the base hats are not manufactured by us, choosing who we work with matters deeply to us.

We have built a relationship with a supplier we trust and value working relationships rooted in fair treatment, respectful working conditions, and fair wages.

We believe that the people involved in making the products we wear deserve dignity, respect, and safe working conditions. We stand firmly against child labor and exploitation, and we strive to work with people and suppliers whose values align with our own.

For us, caring about what we create also means caring about the people who help bring it into the world.

Materials With Meaning

The materials that become part of an Inara hat are chosen with intention. Some are selected for their natural beauty and character, while others bring texture, durability, symbolism, or a particular feeling to a design.

We believe in using materials thoughtfully and, whenever possible, finding ways to give existing materials a second life rather than treating them as disposable.

Organic Cotton

We use organic cotton in select hat bands and designs.

Choosing organic cotton is one way we can be more thoughtful about the materials we incorporate into our designs. It is grown using agricultural practices that avoid many of the synthetic pesticides and fertilizers used in conventional cotton production.

Leather

Leather is used in some of our hat bands and details for its durability, character, and ability to develop a beautiful patina over time.

We recognize that leather is not an impact-free material. Where we use it, our focus is on choosing quality materials that are made to last rather than contributing to a culture of disposable accessories.

Feathers, Chosen With Reverence

Natural feathers are an important part of many Inara designs, and we choose them with deep respect for the animals they come from.

Many of the feathers we use are collected ourselves from nature, while others come from small farms we have worked with in Manitoba. At these farms, feathers such as rooster feathers are naturally molted by the animals and collected rather than being taken from them specifically for decorative use.

We also source turkey feathers as a byproduct of the food industry. The animals are not raised solely for their feathers; the animal is used as a whole, allowing the feathers to be given a second purpose rather than simply becoming waste.

For us, this is part of honoring what already exists — using these natural materials with gratitude rather than treating them as disposable.

Designed to Be Kept

Inara exists in contrast to disposable fashion.

Our hats are designed as distinctive pieces rather than seasonal accessories meant to be replaced when a trend changes. Many are one-of-a-kind, and each is intended to become something you return to again and again.

We believe there is value in buying fewer things that mean more.

Choosing a piece you genuinely connect with, caring for it, and wearing it for years is one simple way of moving away from a culture of constant consumption.

We don't want to make broad claims that everything we use is perfect or impact-free. Instead, we want to be honest about what we know, thoughtful about the choices we make, and continually look for ways to do better.

For us, intention means knowing where our materials come from when we can, building relationships with people we trust, treating materials with respect, standing for fair treatment of workers, and finding ways to give back.
